The Dhikala Zone is one of the most famous and wildlife-rich regions of Jim Corbett National Park. Visitors who want to explore its deep forest, wide grasslands, and rich tiger habitat often prefer the Dhikala Canter Safari. It is an ideal option for groups, especially when travelling with 15–16 people together. Each Canter vehicle seats up to 16 passengers for a shared safari experience.
The journey begins from Ramnagar, the main entry point to the Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve. All visitors must complete the required entry formalities as per government rules before entering the park. Dhikala also offers Forest Rest Houses (FRHs) and several private resorts near the zone, which are known for their scenic surroundings and comfortable facilities.
Jim Corbett National Park is one of India’s most visited wildlife destinations. Its biggest attraction is the Royal Bengal Tiger, along with elephants, deer, crocodiles, and hundreds of bird species. The park lies in the foothills of the Almora range and is surrounded by popular tourist spots, including the beautiful lake town of Nainital.
Wildlife enthusiasts from across India and abroad visit Corbett to explore its rich biodiversity, scenic landscapes, and thrilling safari zones.
Online booking has made it easier to reserve a Canter Safari. Visitors can book through:
The Dhikala Zone remains highly popular, and safari permits are limited, so availability can fill up fast. Although Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve is open throughout the year, the best season to visit is from November to June, when the chances of wildlife sightings are higher.
For any assistance related to Canter Safari bookings, travelers can contact authorized service providers or local experts familiar with the safari procedures.
The Canter Safari is the only way to explore Dhikala during the daytime for visitors staying outside the core area. Jeep safaris are not allowed inside Dhikala during day hours, making the Canter the most convenient option.
Each Canter carries about 18 passengers and operates two trips a day — one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
These tours are known as Ramganga Conducted Tours, and they operate with permission from the Corbett Tiger Reserve authority.
Dhikala is considered one of the best regions to observe wildlife in its natural habitat. Key highlights include:
Visitors often witness elephants, deer, crocodiles, birds, and occasionally tigers along the riverbanks and grasslands.
In addition to regular safari vehicles, two special Canter Safaris (16 seats per vehicle) operate exclusively in the Dhikala tourism zone. The Forest Department reserves the right to cancel or modify permits for administrative or safety reasons.
