Access to Jhirna Zone

Landscape & Topography

The terrain of Jhirna is mainly composed of:

  • Deciduous forests
  • Secondary forest patches
  • Wide open grasslands

These open grasslands create excellent visibility, increasing the chances of spotting wildlife such as deer, elephants, and even predators moving across the region.

Jhirna Forest Rest House

The Jhirna Forest Rest House (FRH) is situated along the southern boundary of the Corbett Tiger Reserve and is accessible through the Dhela entry gate. The vegetation in this region is relatively dry, dominated by shrubs and open forest patches.

Interestingly, this entire area was once agricultural land, occupied by the villages of Dhara, Jhirna, and Kothirau. In 1994, these settlements were relocated under Project Tiger, allowing the land to return to its natural state. Today, Jhirna stands as a remarkable example of how quickly nature can heal and flourish when given the opportunity.

After decades of ecological recovery, the region has transformed into a thriving habitat for wildlife. The restored landscape now attracts a wide variety of animals, making Jhirna FRH a preferred location for spotting wild elephants, sloth bears, deer species, and even big cats.

Perfect for nature lovers, the Jhirna FRH offers peace, wilderness, and a chance to witness the power of nature’s regeneration.
