Durgadevi Government Forest Rest House / Lodge / Eco-Tourism Zone Night Stay Accommodation

Durga Devi Eco-Tourism Zone, also known as the Durgadevi Zone, is one of the most scenic and adventure-filled hill safari zones inside the Corbett Tiger Reserve. Situated on the north-eastern side of the reserve, this area is enriched by the Ramganga and Mandal rivers, which crisscross the landscape and make it a prime habitat for diverse wildlife. The zone is especially popular for sightings of wild elephants and otters near the Domunda Bridge, while the clear river waters are home to the famous Mahseer fish. Its dense green forests and hilly terrain offer excellent opportunities for bird watching, making it a favorite among nature lovers and photographers.

Tourists visiting Durga Devi Zone can stay overnight at the Lohachaur Forest Rest House, which provides a peaceful and authentic forest experience. Jeep Safari is the primary way to explore this zone and observe the rich wildlife of Corbett. Safari permits and entry bookings can be made through the official website. Durga Devi Zone remains open for visitors from 15 October to 15 June every year and closes during the monsoon season for safety and forest conservation.

Attractions

Jungle Safari

The Dhela Zone of Corbett Tiger Reserve can be explored only through a day safari, and visitors must book their permits in advance using the official website. Safari tours are conducted exclusively with registered vehicles accompanied by a compulsory nature guide to ensure safety and proper wildlife interpretation. As with all zones of CTR, private vehicles are strictly prohibited, ensuring the peace of the forest and protecting wildlife habitats.

Chaurs (Grass Lands)

The highlight of the Dhela Zone is the vast Laldhang Chaur, a rich grassland frequently filled with herds of elephants and deer grazing in the open fields. Wild pigs and Nilgai are also commonly spotted here. This expansive grassland is a major attraction for bird lovers, as it is known for a variety of grassland bird species that thrive in the open habitat.

Flora & Fauna

The Dhela region displays rich forest diversity, with trees such as Sheesham, Dhak, Sisoo, and Khair dominating the landscape. The only conifer naturally growing in Corbett, the Chir Pine, can be seen on ridge tops like Chir Choti, gradually decreasing toward Gajar Sot. Higher elevations near Kanda nurture Banj Oak, a characteristic Himalayan species. Other notable trees like Kanju (Holoptelia integrifolia), Jamun (Syzygium cumini), Aamla (Emblica officinalis), Bel, Kusum, Mahua, and Bakli add to the zone’s dense vegetation and ecological richness.
